Product build quality seems ok, but the packaging for shipment was horrible. The packaging involved two boxes slid together, with no way of securing them together. They could be just slid apart, and appeared to have been slid apart several times during shipment, exposing the contents. The parcel arrived with no instructions for assembly or use, and missing at least 5 locknuts required for product assembly.

The trailer ramp is amazing and just what I was looking for but I have to admit when I opened the box it did NOT seem to be brand new. I noticed the box was taped over and yes had some damage to it but that wasn’t the issue. Even the inside component boxes were either damaged or open. When I was putting it together there were several places where the paint was worn off and scratched off. I know this will not effect the function so I kept it. I will, I believe, have to spray paint it I. Those spots to prevent rust maybe. Wasn’t happy with that. I feel when you purchase a new product at this price, you should receive a NEW PRODUCT. Didn’t really have time to go thru a refund or exchange since I needed to use it or else I might have gone that route.

Seems like a great product. I think it’s gonna work very well for my use. There is some wobble when the unit is in the folded upright position and I understand the necessity for that. I’m wondering if there’s some sort of a block or support that can be put on the Metal tube that inserts into the receiver of the truck that would prevent that rocking and eventually the wear and tear.

I use the cargo hitch every week and often multiple days in a row for work. I used to breakdown my magliner/camera cart before and after set as well as for location moves during a shoot, but now i just ramp it up and ratchet the cart to the carrier.

-I have not noticed any significant swaying or movement when it is in the down position and my 4Runner drives like nothing is there.

-When in the upright position, the carrier has a tendency to lean right or left when I turn, so i just fasten it with the same ratchets that I use for securing my cart.

-It weighs about 80 pounds and can be a little tricky to attach solo, but ive got a quick little system and now its no problem. I also generally leave it on.

-with its frequent use, the 2" square connecting shaft has bent a few degrees, probably from some low speed road impacts when going through dips in driveways, etc, so it doesnt sit evenly off the back of my 4Runner, but thats not terrible, it just looks wonky when folded up and when in use in the down position.

-It has made some loud scratching sounds when it drags on the asphalt, maybe some plastic casters would be a good idea.

-I like that it clears my lights and license plate.

-The anti-rattle/stabilization block doesnt cinch down on a 4Runner hitch due to no clearance and welding spots, maybe it does on other vehicles.

-I have otherwise found it to be very solid, out of my view when driving, and well worth the buy. I have had a few in the past and this is the best for my application.

I was a little leery ordering a carrier for my mobility scooter on the Internet, but I couldn't be more pleased with the one I received from etrailer.com. It is very well made with very sturdy steel throughout, all welds are smooth, and there are no sharp edges that could catch clothing or cause injury. I like how I have the ability to old the carrier when I'm not using it to transport my scooter, and I discovered yesterday that when the tailgate on my pickup is open I can use a hand truck to cart heavy objects up on to the carrier making it easier to load because there isn't such a large step up to get items into the pickup bed. This is a quality product, much better than others I'd looked at at mobility stores at twice the price. And the shipping was fast and it was delivered right to my door. I highly recommend etrailer.com and this mobility scooter carrier for anyone looking for a carrier or anything else they could want relating to trailers, carriers, and accessories.

Bought this to haul my generators and lawnmowers. This is the perfect size for my 200 lb. generator. Package came very quick by UPS. Package was in good shape with NO damage. Easy to assemble. All pieces and parts were included with excellent instructions. I assembled it and installed by myself in one hour. The anti-rattle adaptor fit perfect, even though I have a 2 &1/2 inch hitch receiver with a 2 inch adaptor. The ramp fits perfect in the bed of my truck, with my fifth wheel hitch if I have to tow my fifth wheel or boat. Ramp was easy to insert in the receiver by using my 2 wheeled dolly to assist in getting it started, which reduced the total weight of the ramp. Another excellent product from E Trailer.

by:

I am using this to haul a large generator on the back of my fifth wheel camp trailer. I wondered if this would handle the weight and it has done a marvelous job. I love the ramp which makes it easy to load and unload my generator. Thanks for making a great product.

by:

Carrie was exactly what I expected. It was easy to assemble. I bought this to carry a pride motorized mobility scooter. It fit perfect and was perfect ramp angle/degree for easy loading of scooter without tires slipping on ramp.

by:

My carrier came sooner than expected and is a very good quality wheelchair
carrier. It is perfect for my needs and I am very happy with the product. I highly recommend etrailer.com. This carrier will be used for my racing wheelchair.

Product went together very quickly if the directions are followed and there isn’t a lot of BS’ing going on it really doesn’t take that long to put together.
Wheelchair goes on very well.

I am handicapped and I this cargo carrier to haul my electric scooter. I put this carrier on the back of a 2012 Ford Edge. It is very easy to put together, the shipping was very fast and the price was right.

I love this wheel chair carrier, it carries my wife’s electric wheelchair. Easy to install on a class three hitch. Great product.

by:

Just right for the backup generator for dog grooming van. Seems sturdy enough to handle the job if needed.

Very satisfied with the carrier, went tougher very easily .I am using it on a jeep with the longer shaft length it clears my spare tire.

The MaxxTow Wheelchair Carrier.
The
product is very sturdy, assembled easily. The ramp is quite adequate for the low to the ground Ford Flex hitch height. I ordered this from etrailer and did not have time to receive it at home before leaving on vacation. Thanks to etrailer & UPS for three day shipping I received it at my hotel in Oklahoma, where I assembled it and put it to good use. The only complaint I have for MaxxTow is there were no assembly instructions on line. True, its not very complicated, however a tool list would have been nice to have. It all worked out because the nice maintenance man at the hotel loaned me some tools and 45 minutes later it was assembled and the scooter was loaded and ready to go. The Carrier got a good test of over 2500 miles from Oklahoma to California. The only issue was going over steep drive ways with the Ford Flex it is low and drags if you don't take it at an angle. A good product for a fair price.

Good. No issues. I added lights to make it more visible at night

by:

I purchased this carrier because it did not have any of the complaints that I saw about other carriers that cost a bit less. I plan to use it for a snowblower, a walk behind leaf blower, and other large equipment.
Took about an hour to assemble, and at least half of that was just learning the product.
It is an excellent product and worth the money. All of the holes are drilled properly, and the quality is superb. I was able to put it Into the hitch alone by putting it into the vertical position and then lifting it up to the hitch on a 2016 Honda Pilot.
Loading a snowblower was a breeze. No significant sagging of the carrier, about one inch with 200 lbs on it. The longer 48" ramp, as opposed to the standard 42" ramp, makes it possible to pull a 200 lb snowblower onto the carrier from the side without even going up onto the carrier. No problem driving at all.
The instructions were clear. The anti-wiggle device works well. Any wiggle in the carrier was eliminated by tightening up the bolts on the hitch pivot piece as needed.
The carrier pays for itself in one year by avoiding the service cost of pick up and return of heavy equipment like a snowblower, leaf blower, power washer or generator. Plus now I can take the equipment to my daughter's house to help out.
Very happy with the purchase of this quality product.

The product is excellent. I am very impressed by your company. *

by:

I just put this together this afternoon. I sent the first one back because when I got to the last bolt, the holes weren't drilled properly. I contacted etrailer and they took good care of me in helping me return the first carrier and sending a replacement. I was a little frustrated by the vagueness and small print on the instructions but it still only took me about 30 minutes to put it together. I had to do it on my own since my husband is totally disabled, and it was totally doable. Can't wait to load up husband's motorized chair and see how the carrier does.

Carolyn W.

5/17/2018

Thank you for reaching out. We still have the cargo carrier and its working well for transporting my husbands motorized wheelchair. There are two things about the carrier that I would change the ramp length is too short and the carrier tilts down when my husbands wheelchair is loaded on. I bought a portable threshold ramp that we take with us when we take the wheelchair, it helps with loading and unloading the wheelchair. When we travel, the wheelchair tends to move back toward the end of the carrier where the lowest point is. Sometimes its made it difficult to unload the chair because the tie down straps get caught under the chair after it shifts to the back of the ramp. On the positive side, Im usually able to load and unload the chair by myself. Im not sure if Id buy this carrier for an electric wheelchair, I think its probably more suited for lighter equipment.

I carried a 330 pound wheelchair on the platform for less than a week and it warped the mesh on the ramp.

The platform held up well but I worry about using it again this year for my friend because if the ramp breaks down it could ruin his wheelchair leaving him in a terrible position.

If I had been using the platform every day for this whole year I am sure it would be in pieces.

It was supposed to handle 500 pounds so I am not sure why the ramp has such damage with only 330 pounds in under a week.

Chanda H.

4/18/2018

I have now used the platform twice. Both times the platform was used once a day for about a week. So that is only 2 weeks of total use of the platform since purchase. The platform is carrying an electric wheelchair for a friend. The first week the ramp became warped. The mesh started becoming indented. The second week one of the hinges popped a weld. It almost made using it impossible and would have left my friend completely stranded on the opposite side of the country to where he lives with no way too transport his wheelchair. He would have had to drive his wheelchair 80 miles to the airport in order to get home!Unfortunately after only 2 weeks of use the platform is now unusable.

by:

I am returning the carrier as it is not usable. I put my snowblower on it and one end of the carrier twisted to the point that it was less than 12 inches from the ground. I am putting it on a Town and Country which doesn't have a lot of clearance from the receiver hitch to begin with. I would suggest that you add text to your order site warning customers to measure how much clearance they have will be reduced even more by the carrier. A minimum number should be set.

6/11/2013

I would not buy this again. I have been carrying my 180b powerwasher daily and it is already rusting out and sagging. I am at the point where I am afraid to carry anything on it in fear that I might dump it on the road. Not rated for 500lbs. Not rated for 200 lbs.

On our Dodge Magnum, receiver hitch will be 12 inches off ground at its top ten inches at its bottom. Our load is about 200 lbs. In your opinion, will this carrier work?

Etrailer Expert

Patrick B.

8/6/2013

It could work, but it will be low. Depending on the load in the carrier and the cargo area of the Magnum, the suspension may compress enough that the carrier would be too low. There are cargo carriers with a rise built into the shank, to give it some more clearance. Take a look at the etrailer # e98874 for an example of a raised shank. We do not have any raised shank carriers with a load ramp like the this one. All the ramped carriers we have are straight shank.

I searched the internet for a carrier for my Pride Victory 10 scooter. Well after my research and reviews I decided to go with this carrier. I am totally and extremely happy and pleased that I got this carrier. My wife and I (senior citizens) took about 20 minutes to assemble. Attached the carrier to our Hyundai Yukon and rolled up my scooter. Perfect fit. We can still open our Hatch Back door even with scooter and carrier attach to vehicle. I would recommend this carrier to one and all.

Jim B.

8/27/2015

Still use the carrier on regular basis to transport my Victory Scooter. This gives me mobility to go anywhere I wish.

by:

Arrived quickly after order. I have used once so far. Fits my honda 4000 generator perfectly. I will be using to carry my generator on the back of my fifth wheel next weekend. I dont expect any issues, looks like my plan has come together nicely

Andy B.

10/6/2017

It didnt, I had to rebuild it with heavy wall square tubing. The product will not handle a 200 lb. generator. I was able to reuse many parts of the carrier, the main problem was the 2 square tubing and the hinge point, too weak. last 1 trip until I had to rebuild with a straight 2 heavy wall square tubing.

by:

This product is fabulous for our use. We have a special needs daughter and her equipment with wheelchair and walker was filling our van. I ordered it on Tuesday night and received it on Friday just in time to use for a weekend trip. I would recommend the product and etrailer.com after this experience.

Brad S.

6/9/2015

Thanks for checking. I love the carrier. I only have one problem. One of the small pins for the gate hinge somehow fell out when we were driving down the road. I need to get a replacement, but overall this has been a fabulous purchase for us.

by:

I ordered at 6 PM Friday and by 5 Pm Saturday both the hitch and the mobile carrier we’re sitting in my driveway! It took an hour and a half to install the hitch and assemble and install the carrier. They worked fantastic. It is very sturdy.

by:

I finally used it to haul my snowblower. Putting it together was a pretty basic procedure except there wasn't too much information on the installation of the anti-rattle device. After watching another video I will attempt it again. Hopefully this will do the trick for hauling.

Mike C.

It is pretty loading and unloading my snow blower. Still havent figured how the anti wiggle works. That would be my only complaint.

Thanks for the follow up Mike, I have included demo video of the cargo carrier. At about the one minute mark, you can see that the installer tightens the anti-rattle device to snug the carrier in the hitch.

by:

Ordering was easy. Shipping was done in a very impressive time period. Assembly was easy. There was a small area that the paint did not cover properly. I scraped it and touched it up. There were some areas that had sharp edges. Care should be used while handling. While folding up the first time. Where hold down was welded to main frame. The weld was faulty and let go. I will have to get it re- welded at some point. It wasn't worth the hassle to return.

Choosing a hitch-mount wheelchair carrier will require you to check the tongue weight capacities of both your vehicle and the hitch installed on it, and also to confirm the weight of your wheelchair and the carrier you choose. The combined weight of the carrier and chair must not exceed either the hitch's or the vehicle's weight capacity. If the vehicle and hitch do not share the same weight capacity then the lower-rated of the two becomes the limit for the system. The ramped carrier you...

  • Is the Flint Hill Goods Wheelchair Carrier Compatible w/ a 2017 Subaru Outback?
Yes, they are if your 2017 Subaru Outback has a 2" hitch installed like item # e42TR. The Flint Hill Goods 30" x 50" Wheelchair Carrier item # FHG77ZR requires your vehicle to have a 2" receiver. The etrailer Hitch item # e42TR is custom fit for your 2017 Subaru Outback and has a 600 lbs maximum tongue weight. I really like this hitch because...

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier Recommendation for Transporting Snow Blower
I highly recommend the Flint Hill Goods 29" x 50" Cargo Carrier w Ramp # FHG67ZR for transporting your snow blower around town. Initially that sounds pretty heavy but when you compare it to the 75.5 lb weight of the steel alternative, part # FHG77ZR, you see it sheds about 20 lbs off the total weight. The carrier I'm recommending is made of aluminum which is why it's lighter. The aluminum construction not only helps...

The internal dimensions are 60" long x 24" wide x 5-1/2" deep. Many people use carriers like this for small business lawn care. If you want a ramp for easier loading and unloading # FHG77ZR is a popular option.

  • Best Cargo Carrier with Ramp Options for a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse with the Factory Tow Package
One of the key components in looking at cargo carriers is that they are on the lighter side of things so that they don't eat up your Tongue Weight (TW) which takes away from how much cargo you can carry. This is made of aluminum, comes with a ramp and has a weight capacity of 500 lbs. The accessories that I recommend looking at include a locking hitch pin like...
